Wind Power Management Protocol Work Group Paper
On September 26th, 2007, the AESO released the Market and Operational Framework for Wind Integration and shortly thereafter assembled three work groups to assist and advise the AESO on recommendations for development of:
• Supply Surplus protocol
• Wind Power Management Protocol
• Wind Power Management technical requirements
The intent at this time is to make public the findings and recommendations of the Wind Power Management Protocol Work Group for transparency. The Wind Power Management Protocol work group members consisted primarily of wind power developers with some representation from other industry sectors.
This work group was established to assist the AESO with the implementation of the Market and Operational Framework by developing a series of technically feasible and reasonable recommendations for a protocol on the use of the ramp rate limiting and/or power limiting for wind power facilities from the AESO’s Automatic Dispatch and Messaging System. Please refer to the work group terms of reference for information on the group's purpose, scope, responsibilities and membership.
The AESO will now consider the findings and recommendations of the Work Group and develop an AESO discussion paper pertaining to the implementation of wind power management to meet the needs of market participants and the AESO. The AESO discussion paper will be released for full consultation this fall.
The AESO would like to express its sincere appreciation to the work group members for their efforts and also to their companies for supporting the investment in time and expertise to develop these recommendations for AESO consideration.
