Export Capability

Export Capability Project

The AESO’s export capability participant work group was set up to investigate ways to increase export capacity. Their work is focused primarily on initiatives to increase physical capacity through operational improvements such as available transfer capacity [ATC] calculations, Generator RAS, operating policies and procedures, etc. The group also provides input and feedback related to short and medium term capital improvements, proposed market rule changes and tariff development.

The documents below include meeting minutes, action items and other draft documents related to the discussions underway at the work group meetings.

Generator Remedial Action Scheme (GRAS) Consultation

A Generator Remedial Action Scheme (GRAS) can be used to increase transfer capabilities under certain operating circumstances. A GRAS is designed to trip a generator when a specified contingency occurs. For exports, a GRAS can mitigate the effects of critical contingencies by reducing power flows on transmission lines or reducing frequency deviations.
