Long-term Critical Outages
Please be aware that information regarding long-term critical outages has been updated to indicate the typical process for curtailing generation to facilitate transmission outages.
Click on the link below to access the long-term (greater than 10 days) critical transmission maintenance outage report submitted as tentative to the AESO. This report contains tentatively approved outage schedules for critical transmission and generation facilities that are scheduled to take more than 10 days. These facilities include the interties to B.C., the McNeill converter station, some 240 kV lines, and the generators that are contracted to provide certain system support services.
An outage is considered critical for this report if:
- it affects a 500 kV line, breaker, bus or transformation
- it affects a 240 kV Line, breaker, bus or transformation
- it affects the interconnection of the AIES to an external transmission system, specifically the BC intertie or the Saskatchewan intertie
- it affects a significant component of the AIES, is an interconnecting element between transmission facility owners, or connects a generating unit to the AIES
- it requires curtailing generation to facilitate the outage.
Note: Where a transmission outage requires generation curtailments, the adjustments to generation will typically happen in the hour before the scheduled transmission outage and in the hour after the element is returned to service.
