Consolidated Authoritative Document Glossary
[Posted: March 1, 2013]
All defined terms used in ISO rules, ISO tariff and Alberta Reliability Standards are listed in alphabetical order in the consolidated glossary. Beneath each defined term are the domains of use along with the applicable confirmation or approval date. For example, the defined term "AESO Person" has only been approved for the ISO tariff and is represented in the consolidated glossary as follows:
| AESO Person | means "Independent System Operator person" and has the meaning ascribed to in the Act. |
| [ISO tariff, 2008-08-01] |
"electric distribution system" has been confirmed and approved for use in the ISO rules and the Alberta Reliability Standards and is represented in the consolidated glossary as follows:
| electric distribution system | as defined in the Act means the plant, works, equipment, systems and services necessary to distribute electricity in a service area, but does not include a generating unit or a transmission facility. |
| [ISO rules, 2010-04-30; Alberta Reliability Standards, 2010-04-30] |
For purposes of the Authoritative Document Consolidated Glossary all defined terms are represented in bold type. In the actual authoritative documents defined terms are identified in bold type, italics or sometimes written in plain text. Through the Transition of Authoritative Documents project the AESO will transition all defined terms to bold type for consistency throughout its documents.
In many cases the date associated with ISO rules and Alberta Reliability Standards will be the same. Each Alberta Reliability Standard filed with the Alberta Utilities Commission use both the defined terms approved with Alberta Reliability Standards and, by reference, the defined terms used in the ISO rules. As such, the Alberta Reliability Standards uses the ISO rules confirmation date for the defined terms associated with ISO rules.
Market Participants will notice duplication and minor variations with defined terms within ISO rules, ISO tariff and Alberta Reliability Standards. As part of the Transition of Authoritative Documents project the AESO will continue to review defined terms and utilize defined terms where possible. The AESO will seek the necessary confirmation and approvals on changes to defined terms in accordance with Section 20.5 of the Electric Utilities Act or ISO rules definitions, Section 125 of the Electric Utilities Act for ISO tariff definitions and Section 19 of the Transmission Regulation for Alberta Reliability Standards definitions.
