Transmission Reliability Criteria

As a member of the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC), Alberta has chosen to adopt the WECC Reliability Criteria for application in Alberta as well as its interconnections. The AESO Transmission Reliability Criteria summarizes important elements of the WECC Reliability Criteria and identifies applicable performance standards and interpretations used in planning and operating the Alberta Transmission System.

The intent of the Transmission Reliability Criteria is to create clarity around the criteria that apply to Alberta and the interpretations particular to Alberta.

Reliability data for the Alberta Interconnected System (AIES) is available for the years 1997 to 2001. This data provides information on the frequency and duration of transmission line and terminal outages. The data compares Alberta's performance to the rest of Canada.
