ILRAS Procurement

An Interruptible Load Remedial Action Scheme (ILRAS) has been used since 1998 to enhance the reliability of the Alberta transmission system as well as to increase access to additional supply capacity for Alberta. The AESO has undertaken to competitively procure ILRAS services in an effort to replace the current arrangement wherein FortisAlberta is the sole ILRAS provider.  Since attempts to competitively procure ILRAS have failed to attract sufficient interest to make the service contestable, the AESO will be continuing the existing ILRAS arrangement with FortisAlberta. 

The AESO has concluded the ILRAS Working Group consultation process on measures to increase import capability on the Alberta-BC inter-tie.  With a view to longer term solutions, the AESO will be consulting with industry on a broader initiative aimed at increasing import and export capabilities of existing inter-ties.
