    Ancillary services are essential for providing Albertans with safe, secure and reliable electricity. These services include Operating Reserve, Transmission Must-Run, Black Start services, and Load Shed Services for imports.

    We are committed to using a fair and transparent competitive procurement process for ancillary services whenever possible.

    Current opportunities

    Load Shed Services for imports

    The AESO opened a competition to procure Load Shed Services for imports (LSSi) for 2019 and subsequent years. A Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI) stage opened on May 1 and closed May 14, 2018. The AESO thanks all parties who submitted EOI forms for their interest in the competition and valued feedback.

    The Request for Proposals (RFP) stage opens June 1, 2018 and will run through a SharePoint portal. Interested parties must register for SharePoint and sign the SharePoint Agreement to participate in the competition.     On May 8th, 2018, the AESO hosted a Load Shed Services for imports information session.     Black Start Services

    A Request for Proposals (RFP) for Black Start Services in Northeast Alberta opened on February 15, 2018. The RFP submission deadline is June 20, 2018.
