    Comprehensive Market Design (CMD)

Throughout 2017, the AESO engaged working groups and stakeholders in the development of the capacity market design. The CMD Final is the culmination of 18 months of extensive analysis, due diligence and significant input gathered from experts representing a broad range of stakeholder groups.

We are continuing to talk to stakeholders about the capacity market. To learn more about our upcoming stakeholder engagement sessions click here

    CMD working groups

To help design a capacity market that will meet Alberta’s needs, the AESO relied heavily on the participation of stakeholders. Working groups were formed to gather input from many stakeholders representing a broad spectrum of interests to design a market that will be best for Alberta.

    Straw Alberta Market

Prior to developing the CMD, the AESO released three Straw Alberta Market proposals (called SAM 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0) beginning in May 2017. The SAM proposals served as a starting point for collaborative discussions about capacity market design among industry stakeholders and the AESO.
