Market Transition Industry Stakeholder Session

A stakeholder session will be held on July 10 from 1–5 p.m. to review key details of the final CMD proposal and to discuss the next steps in the capacity market transition process.
The session will be held at the Metropolitan Conference Centre in Calgary, Alberta. To view the presentation please click here.

Comprehensive Market Design May 1 Stakeholder Session

The AESO has published the Straw Alberta Market (SAM) 3.0 Stakeholder Update.
SAM 3.0 documents provisional recommendations developed by each of the five design stream working groups and provides the context of the working group discussions in which these recommendations were formed.
A stakeholder session to review SAM 3.0 and to discuss next steps in the capacity market design process will be held on December 11.

The AESO is organizing stakeholder working groups to develop recommendations for the design of Alberta’s capacity market. Stakeholders who are interested in becoming a member of a working group are encouraged to review the terms of reference and complete the application for working groups. The deadline for applications is May 24, 2017.

Review of capacity market designs
March 30, 2017
The AESO commissioned Charles River Associates to conduct a review of capacity market designs in the US and Europe. The report identifies commonly accepted practices and lessons learned in designing these capacity markets. The report also discusses key characteristics of Alberta’s electricity system that may influence design choices. This report provides a useful base of information for the AESO and stakeholders to consider as we move into the detailed design phase of developing Alberta’s capacity market.
