AESO Invites Stakeholders to a Market Roadmap Session
The AESO is planning an industry stakeholder information session on Nov. 29, 2018 from 1–4 p.m. at the Westin Hotel (320 4th Avenue SW, Calgary). This session will focus on the roadmap for the evolution of the capacity and energy/ancillary services markets, as outlined in our Comprehensive Market Design cover letter. AESO Invites Stakeholders to a Technical Information Session for Implementation of the Capacity Market Rules
On Nov. 1, 2018 the AESO will host a webinar-only technical information session to discuss the mechanics and implementation details of certain capacity market rules based on stakeholder feedback.
AESO Invites Stakeholders to Consultation Sessions for Set 2 and Set 3 of the ISO Rules for the Implementation of the Capacity Market

The AESO will hold consultation sessions on Sept. 11 and 12, 2018 for Set 2 of the draft ISO rules for the implementation of the capacity market (Set 2 rules) and on Sept. 13, 2018 for Set 3 of the draft ISO rules for the implementation of the capacity market (Set 3 rules).
The Set 2 and Set 3 draft ISO rules are now available on the AESO website.

Notice of Consultation – ISO Tariff Design for Allocating Costs of Capacity Procurement and Bulk and Regional Transmission
July 26, 2018
On July 26, 2018, the AESO posted a notice regarding the AESO’s consultation on ISO tariff design for allocating the costs of capacity procurement and bulk and regional transmission. The AESO is hosting a session on August 8, 2018 in Calgary, at the Sheraton Eau Claire – Wildrose Ballroom North, from 9 am to 12 pm. A teleconference line will be provided for stakeholders wishing to attend the session remotely.
The RSVP deadline is noon on August 3, 2018.

Market Transition Industry Stakeholder Session

A stakeholder session will be held on July 10 from 1–5 p.m. to review key details of the final CMD proposal and to discuss the next steps in the capacity market transition process.
The session will be held at the Metropolitan Conference Centre in Calgary, Alberta. To view the presentation please click here.

The AESO has published the Straw Alberta Market (SAM) 3.0 Stakeholder Update.
SAM 3.0 documents provisional recommendations developed by each of the five design stream working groups and provides the context of the working group discussions in which these recommendations were formed.
A stakeholder session to review SAM 3.0 and to discuss next steps in the capacity market design process will be held on December 11.

Review of capacity market designs

The AESO commissioned Charles River Associates to conduct a review of capacity market designs in the US and Europe. The report identifies commonly accepted practices and lessons learned in designing these capacity markets. The report also discusses key characteristics of Alberta’s electricity system that may influence design choices. This report provides a useful base of information for the AESO and stakeholders to consider as we move into the detailed design phase of developing Alberta’s capacity market.
