    Mothballing

On June 7, 2016, Section 306.7 of the ISO rules, Mothball Outage Reporting, became effective. The rule allows pool participants to take mothball outages. The AESO indicated that this rule was expedited as an interim measure, and that the AESO will be initiating a comprehensive review of the requirements relating to outages, including mothball outages, and will engage stakeholders as part of this review.

The comprehensive review is now underway.  In the first stakeholder session, the AESO indicated to stakeholders that it will be exploring the feasibility of continuing to include mothball outages as a feature of the Alberta market design framework, as well as the scope and content of the rules relating to outages. Further details pertaining to the AESO’s stakeholder engagement can be viewed in the attachments below.

Stakeholder engagement is currently underway for Mothballing. To view more information on the associated changes, please click here.
