Energy Trading System (ETS) Digital Certificate Advisory
The AESO uses a third party company, Symantec/Verisign, to manage the digital certificates required to access the Energy Trading System (ETS). However, Digicert Corporation purchased the Symantec/Verisign certificate business earlier this year. As a result, Digicert is making changes with their Trusted Root Certification certificates. These changes may affect the use of pool participant’s individual Version 7 ETS.AESO.CA certificates.
ETS users who have migrated to the Version 8 infrastructure are not affected.
For Version 7 digital certificates, Digicert is modifying existing URLs used to validate client certificates to new ones. If participants are using a restricted security posture on their firewalls where specific IPs or URLs are designated for Symantec or Verisign certificate validation, participants must update the URLs by June 18, 2018.
A list with the old and new URLs is available on the Digicert website at the following link: https://www.digicert.com/pki-certificate-profile-digicert-domains.htm (Production Profile URLs).
The AESO encourages participants to avoid potential issues by confirming certificate validation with their Security/IT department, or expediting the migration of their certificates to Version 8. Please note that all participants must migrate their Version 7 certificates to Version 8 by June 30, 2018. For migration instructions and assistance, please contact info@aeso.ca.
