    Implementation of the Capacity Market

    On July 29, 2019, the Alberta Utilities Commission accepted the AESO’s request to withdraw its application and AUC proceeding #23757 is now closed.

    On July 25, 2019 the AESO filed a request to withdraw its application for approval of the first set of ISO rules to establish and operate the capacity market.

    On July 24, 2019, the Government of Alberta announced that Alberta will not transition to a capacity market, and will continue with an energy-only market. 

    On January 31, 2019, the AESO filed an application for Alberta Utilities Commission (“AUC”) approval of the first set of ISO rules to establish and operate the capacity market pursuant to Section 20.2 of the Electric Utilities Act and Section 13 of AUC Rule 017.
