Grid Operations
One of the core business functions of the AESO is to direct the real-time operation of Alberta's Interconnected Electric System (AIES).The AESO is accountable for the safe, reliable and economic operation of the provincial grid, to ensure ongoing system reliability and the facilitation of competitive markets for electricity.
The AESO ensures the AIES is planned and operated in compliance with the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) standards and the WECC Reliability Management System.
