    REM ISO Rules

Restructured Energy Market (REM) ISO rules are required to implement and operate the REM.

In accordance with Section 20.01 of the Electric Utilities Act, REM ISO rules are approved by the Minister of Affordability and Utilities.

The AESO submitted REM ISO rules for approval by the Minister in January 2026. The complete set of REM ISO rules that have been finalized for the Minister’s approval are set out in the Restructured Energy Market ISO Rules document. This document also contains a list of existing ISO rules that will not be required for the REM and that the AESO will be authorized to rescind to facilitate REM implementation.

On March 12, 2026, the AESO received a letter from the Minister confirming that the Restructured Energy Market ISO Rules document will be approved through an upcoming Restructured Energy Market ISO Rules Regulation. The Minister’s letter can be found here.

The following REM ISO rules will be effective immediately upon approval:

These REM ISO rules can be individually accessed below.

The remainder of the REM ISO rules will be brought into effect by the AESO in accordance with Section 103.15 of the REM ISO rules, Restructured Energy Market Transition to facilitate implementation and operation of the REM.

In accordance with Section 103.15 of the REM ISO rules, Restructured Energy Market Transition, the AESO will provide a minimum of 30 days’ written notice prior to bringing the remainder of the REM ISO rules into effect, and prior to rescinding any ISO rules that are not required for the REM.

Defined terms in REM ISO rules can be found in either the complete set of approved REM ISO rules linked above or, for REM ISO rules that are in effect, the AESO’s Consolidated Authoritative Document Glossary.
