ISO REM Rules
The ISO rules to enact the Restructured Energy Market (REM ISO rules) will be approved via Ministerial regulation. The AESO intends to submit the REM ISO rules to the Minister of Affordability and Utilities for approval before the end of 2025. Engagement on the draft REM ISO rules begins in September 2025.
Optimal Transmission Planning
Starting in 2024, the AESO began consultations on transitioning from a zero-congestion transmission planning standard to a new standard based on Optimal Transmission Planning (OTP). The OTP engagement will continue through the end of 2025. The AESO plans to file OTP rules with the Alberta Utilities Commission in 2026.
