Constrained Volume by Planning Area and Fuel Type

In response to a data request, the AESO is providing the hourly constrained volume by planning area and fuel type for 2020 to 2025. The data only includes hours where there were transmission constraints. It does not include supply surplus curtailments.

The constraint data consists of 6 columns for each hour:

    • Date (GMT) & Date (MPT): Hour in Greenwich Mean Time and Mountain Time (either MST or MDT).
    • Fuel Type: Fuel type being constrained. Thermal indicates gas, coal, or dual fuel.
    • Planning Area: Planning Area of constraint
    • Constrained MW: constrained volume for the entire hour in MWh
    • Minutes: the number of minutes the planning area was constrained for the given hour.

There are no plans to provide further updates to this information. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Market Analytics at market.analysis@aeso.ca.
